Plain-language summary (this site, from the cited record only)

SLEO 2 Donna Slack was terminated by the Camden County Sheriffs Office in 2023. The sustained charge was conduct unbecoming. On September 25, 2023, while on duty at the Hall of Justice, Slack admitted to using a racial slur and to arguing with an inmate and directing a crude remark at him, in the presence of two other officers and an attorney seated with his client.

Synopsis as reported by the agency

On September 25, 2023, SLEO Slack was on duty and assigned to fourth floor holding at the HOJ along with 2 other officers. While SLEO Slack was engaged in conversation with her co-workers, the inmates were conversing amongst themselves and using the "N" word. SLEO Slack admitted to saying, "It's ok for them to say, N***a, but let me say it and I'll lose my freakin' job." This comment was made in the presence of two other Sheriff's Officer's and an attorney who was sitting with his client, who is black. Additionally, SLEO Slack admitted to arguing back and forth with an inmate and telling him to, "S*** his own d***." Throughout her interview, SLEO Slack kept reiterating that the comment was not directed towards a specific individual rather she was just pointing out that a specific group of individuals can say that word when others can't. She did not fully grasp the gravity of that statement and those types of comments should not be used by a member of the Sheriff's Office on or off duty.

Compensation and pension

No confident pension match found. This site links a pension record to a named officer only when the name and the exact employing agency both match a New Jersey Treasury record. Where that bar is not met, nothing is shown rather than a guess. See methodology for how these matches are made and what is withheld.
