Diego Munoz-Colon turned himself in at police headquarters about 7:30 a.m. and was placed in a holding cell, which is supposed to be monitored through a video feed by a staff member at the front desk, police said. At 11:50 a.m., a police officer brought lunch to Munoz-Colon and found him hanging by his shirt inside the cell. Media reports don't state categorically whether he was booked, so this incident may be outside of FatalEncounters dataset, which does not include individuals after they've been booked into the jail or prison system.
