1,140 decisions since January 16, 2019 on the appeals, list removals and promotion disputes of police, sheriff's and corrections officers, and of candidates for those jobs, as the Commission recorded them at its public meetings.[1]The Attorney General's data reports discipline once a year, after the fact; these minutes record it at each meeting, while appeals are still open.

By department
797 decisions are joined to 143 departments on this site, municipal police, sheriff's offices, county jails and four State agencies. The other 343 name an employer this site has no page for, or one that could not be matched with certainty, and are left unjoined rather than guessed. Each department page lists its own.
93 more departments have fewer decisions; each page lists its own.
By county
Joined decisions grouped by the county of the department. 246 concern a State agency, such as the Department of Corrections or the State Parole Board, and belong to no county.

Questions and answers
Which police officers can appeal to the Civil Service Commission?
Officers employed by a civil service jurisdiction: a town or county that has adopted the civil service system, or the State. A police officer in a town outside the system follows a different statutory track, and a major discipline appeal there generally goes to the Superior Court instead. Each department page on this site says which track applies.
Is an appeal on this page a finding that the officer did something wrong?
No. A discipline appeal records that an employer imposed a penalty and the employee contested it. The Commission can uphold, change or reverse the penalty, and the outcome shown is what the minutes record it did. A list removal concerns a candidate for a job, most often before any appointment.
Why are names shown here when this site names officers only from the Attorney General's major discipline data?
The captions are the Commission's own: it publishes each decision under the name of the person appealing, or under initials when it withholds the name, and this site prints them exactly so. Where a printed name is exactly the name of an officer on this site at the same department, and no other officer there shares it, the decision links to that officer's major discipline record. An initialed party is never identified.
How current is this?
Decisions run through the minutes of September 2, 2026. The Commission posts its minutes, and links each decision into them, some weeks after a meeting. Items on a posted agenda that has no minutes yet are listed separately as pending.
