Jose Perez Jr. opened fire on Elizabeth Police Officer Miguel Matos with a semi-automatic 9-millimeter pistol shortly before 3 a.m., police said. Matos was in uniform on an off-duty security assignment at the bar, Elin's Queen of Hearts.
