Officers arrived at McAllister's house at 11:30 a.m. after he drunkenly beat his partner and threatened to kill their 1-year-old son. A hostage negotiator spoke with him until 4:30 a.m. the next day, when police broke into the residence and fatally shot McAllister as he advanced upon them while brandishing a knife. His son was unhurt.
