On or about April 17, 2022, Officer Garrett was involved in an off-duty incident that resulted in the seizure of his service weapon pursuant to legal mandates, which could not returned until the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office authorized it. The BCPO ultimately determined that Officer Garrett was not authorized to have possession of his service weapon for a minimum period of six months. Effective September 15, 2022, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office permitted Officer Garrett to have possession of his service weapon and he was able to return to duty. Disciplinary action was imposed because absent his ability to carry a service weapon, he could not perform all of the essential job duties of a sworn law enforcement officer.
