November 2017 - Sergeant Cerra was arrested and eventually charged with one count of Possession of a Firearm with Unlawful Purpose, one count of 3rd degree Aggravated Assault, one count of 4th degree Aggravated Assault and one count of 2nd degree Official Misconduct stemming from a road rage incident. He was immediately suspended pending resolution of the criminal charges. He subsequently pled guilty to one count of 4th degree Aggravated Assault (NJSA 2C:12-1B(4)) on June 12, 2023. March 2018- Sergeant Cerra demonstrated a lack of candor by providing a false name to officers while being questioned as part of an investigation. On June 12, 2023, Sergeant Cerra signed a plea agreement with the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office resigning his employment with the Franklin Township Police Department and agreed to not seek employment with any other law enforcement agency in the future. No discipline was meted out from the department for these infractions based upon the plea agreement.
