On January 26, 2023, an internal investigation was directed regarding Detective Watkins' for failure to conduct a proper investigation. It was discovered that Det. Watkins failed to sign criminal complaints against a defendant for over two and half months. A collateral issue was identified after an audit of Det. Watkins’ active cases. It was discovered that Detective Watkins failed to give suitable attention to eighty-two (82) active investigations and failed to adequately document or complete reports in a timely manner after being directed to so on numerous occasions by his supervisor. This caused those matters to have be reassigned to other detectives for completion.
