A New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC) Special Investigations Division investigation revealed that on 5/29/25, Garden State Youth Correctional Facility’s Senior Correctional Police Officer (SCPO) Vito Vitone, while off institutional grounds supervising an incarcerated person Highway Detail, drove into a local park and allowed the incarcerated persons to use public Porta-Johns without doing proper security checks of those bathrooms. The investigation revealed that one of the incarcerated persons had prearranged and executed a surreptitiously meeting with a female acquaintance inside the Porta-John to exchange cash, contraband and sex. On 7/9/25, SCPO Vitone signed a settlement agreement for a 15-day suspension.
