Synopsis as reported by the agency
Bayside State Prison’s Senior Correctional Police Officer (SCPO) Bruce Gansert filed for retirement effective 2/1/25. On 11/2/24, SCPO Gansert opened a “sick number” and stopped reporting to work. SCPO Gansert inaccurately advised operations that his retirement was effective 11/1/24. SCPO Gansert was advised by New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC) Human Resources (HR) that he did not have an approved leave and would need to either return to work or submit FMLA documentation to cover his absences. SCPO Gansert failed to respond to repeated correspondence from NJDOC HR. SCPO Gansett was issued a Final Notice of Disciplinary Action for a resignation not in good standing, effective 2/18/25.
