Garden State Correctional Facility’s Senior Correctional Police Officer (SCPO) Joseph Gigante was on an unauthorized leave of absence since 6/20/24. SCPO Gigante was sent numerous letters on 8/22/24 and 12/23/24 requesting either a certificate from his treating physician indicating whether or not he was able to return to work, a letter of resignation from his position within the New Jersey Department of Corrections, or proof of an Application for Retirement. The last letter sent indicated a response was required by 1/3/25. As of 1/3/25, SCPO Gigante had not sent in any of the required documentation and has yet to return to work. SCPO Gigante was issued a Final Notice of Disciplinary Action for a resignation not in good standing effective on 6/18/25.
